Non-French War Deaths Matter

Published on Let’s Try Democracy, by David Swanson, Nov 14, 2015.

We are all France. Apparently. Though we are never all Lebanon or Syria or Iraq for some reason. Or a long, long list of additional places.

We are led to believe that U.S. wars are not tolerated and cheered because of the color or culture of the people being bombed and occupied. But let a relatively tiny number of people be murdered in a white, Christian, Western-European land, with a pro-war government, and suddenly sympathy is the order of the day. A Brutal New Germany: What's Happening to My Country?

How Outside Normalcy Should an Outsider Be?

Published on Dissident Voice, by James Hoover, Nov 10, 2015.

Ben Carson is the quiet, almost somnolent, version of Donald Trump. He is, like Trump, a political outsider, but a crafty politician all the same, without the reality TV persona of Donald Trump. Carson seems to share other attributes with “the Donald” though not commonly discussed in the media.   Continuer la lecture de « How Outside Normalcy Should an Outsider Be? »

Published on The Bullet, Socialist Project’s E-Bulletin No. 1183 (first on 2016 Socialist Register), by the 2016 Socialist Register, Nov 6, 2015.

The Preface to the 2016 Socialist Register, The Politics of the Right, includes the following paragraphs: “There is a great strategic importance in a sober analysis of the strength of new right today, and the impasse of the left emerges here as a central concern. In confronting almost everywhere different permutations of right wing populism gaining further ground in this phase of neoliberalism, and the increasing state authoritarianism seen in new modes of surveillance and policing, we need to recognize the complicity of liberal and social democratic political agents in this. Both this and the limited political capacities of the radical left have provide space for the rise of the right and the new authoritarianism in the current conjuncture … // Continuer la lecture de « The Politics of the Right and the Dilemmas of the Left »

Distortion, Fabrication, and Falsification in the Financial Press

Western Mainstream Extremism – Published on Dissident Voice, by James Petras, Nov 3, 2015.

With the collapse of the Communist countries in the 1990s and their conversion to capitalism, followed by the advent of neo-liberal regimes throughout most of Latin America, Asia, Europe, and North America, the imperial regimes in the US and EU have established a new political spectrum, in which the standards of acceptability narrowed and the definition of adversaries expanded … // Continuer la lecture de « Distortion, Fabrication, and Falsification in the Financial Press »
