The Demonology School of Journalism, Putin and the Press

Published on Dissident Voice, by James Petras, October 11, 2015.

… Putin: Demon or Realist, Autocrat or Democrat, Vassal or Independent Leader?

  • The Western media has backed every oligarch, gangster, and fraudster who has gone on trial and been convicted during Putin’s term in office. The propagandists tell us the reason for this affinity between the Western media and the gangster-oligarchs is that these convicted felons, who claim to be ‘political dissidents’ and critics of Putin’s rule, have been dispossessed, and jailed for upholding ‘Western values’.   Continuer la lecture de « The Demonology School of Journalism, Putin and the Press »

The Trans-Pacific Free-Trade Charade

Published on Social Europe.eu, by Joseph Stiglitz and Adam Hersh, Oct 5, 2015.

As negotiators and ministers from the United States and 11 other Pacific Rim countries meet in Atlanta in an effort to finalize the details of the sweeping new Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), some sober analysis is warranted. The biggest regional trade and investment agreement in history is not what it seems.

You will hear much about the importance of the TPP for “free trade.” The reality is that this is an agreement to manage its members’ trade and investment relations – and to do so on behalf of each country’s most powerful business lobbies. Make no mistake: It is evident from the main outstanding issues, over which negotiators are still haggling, that the TPP is not about “free” trade.   Continuer la lecture de « The Trans-Pacific Free-Trade Charade »

Nietzsche, Europe And The German Question

Pubished on Social Europe, by Sinob Glendinning, Oct 9, 2015.

… Nietzsche is a German philosopher best known for his radical critique of Europe’s historical (and especially Christian) morality of “good and evil”. However, it is less well known that his efforts to go “beyond” the Europe of those values is still made in the name of Europe, and specifically with reference to the coming of a new “supra-national and nomadic type of man” that he calls “good Europeans” (154). These Europeans will have achieved independence of any “definite milieu” (153), and belong to a Europe that “wants to become one” (169). In what follows I want briefly to raise the question why Nietzsche retains this stress on Europe. Why does Nietzsche speak of “we Europeans”, and not simply, say, “we whoevers”? … // Continuer la lecture de « Nietzsche, Europe And The German Question »

The Trans Pacific Partnership TPP on Environment and Labour

Published on Global Research.ca, by Binoy Kampmark, Oct 8, 2015: Global Markets Imperilled by “Unfree Trade”.

… The estranged political classes continued their defiance of democratic practice by signing, again without the involvement of non-trade interests, a document that has been sold as a choice between the rash and the damned. The delegates at the Atlanta round of talks for the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement came from twelve states, and some of them were acutely aware that domestic matters were pressing. The election cycle in the United States is starting to gain steam. Canada faces a close election on October 19. Australia’s new prime minister is hunkering down.   Continuer la lecture de « The Trans Pacific Partnership TPP on Environment and Labour »

Could The Syrian Conflict Irrevocably Change Global Geopolitics?

Published on Oil Price, by Robert Berke, Oct 6, 2015.

Few meetings ever started with dimmer prospects for success than the recent meeting between Presidents Obama and Putin.

The real call for the meeting stemmed from the EU refugee crisis. With a human catastrophe brewing in Europe and the Middle East, EU leaders are urgently demanding that the U.S. and Russia set aside their differences and begin to work together in an effort to resolve the Syrian conflict, the major cause of the massive movement of people seeking sanctuary.   Continuer la lecture de « Could The Syrian Conflict Irrevocably Change Global Geopolitics? »

After All We Did For Them in Fallujah

Published on Dissident Voice (first in Z Magazine https://zcomm.org/zmag/ ), by Edward S. Herman, Oct 5, 2015.

… There is a vagueness in these references to a supposed “mission” and “reasons.” We should not forget that the U.S. leader in this Iraq enterprise, U.S. President George W. Bush, had originally claimed that the sole reason for invading Iraq was its possession of weapons of mass destruction and the threat that this posed to international peace and security. Once that was admitted to have been a fraud the mission and its purported reasons would seem to have disappeared and immediate withdrawal should have been called for . However, this was quickly adjusted to the mission of bringing democracy to Iraq, presumably to help the Iraqi people improve their lives as well as reduce the external threat of dictatorship. But any sensible person should recognize that a U.S. leadership that stands firmly with Saudi Arabia, and had earlier supported Saddam Hussein when he was attacking Iran, couldn’t be expending resources for any democratic objective … // Continuer la lecture de « After All We Did For Them in Fallujah »

Europe: two thirds of EU states reject GMO crops, file cultivation opt-out requests

Published on Russia Today RT, Oct 5, 2015.

The Australian Government is sure the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) investigation of the downing of Malaysian Airlines MH17 will fail to identify the precise cause of the crash, and will be inconclusive on who and what were responsible. Irresponsible Putin bashing following his UN address

Published on Intrepid Report, by Stephen Lendman, Oct 1, 2015.

It’s always open season on irresponsibly bashing Vladimir Putin—instead of embracing his sensible solutions to major world problems.

Western media are relentless, marching to the drumbeat of imperial regimes they represent, partnering with America’s killing machine—polar opposite Putin’s global peace and stability agenda, respecting the sovereign rights of all nations, urging unity to achieve common objectives benefitting everyone.   Continuer la lecture de « Irresponsible Putin bashing following his UN address »

THE DECIDER CLASS – gatekeepers in the system

Published on Basic Income Earth Network BIEN, by Karen Christine Patrick, Sept 28, 2015.

I can attest to “angels in the system” so for people in the social work class who are not only doing their job well, but still care deeply for people… this is not about you. This is about your co-workers who’s body shows up to shuffle the paperwork, but their mind and heart are absent, who stick by the rules even if the “rules” are just guidelines, are badly trained or misinformed. These are the deciders who make of the system a labyrinth of despair. There are also the devils of the system, the ones for whom my mother said, “would break the wings off of butterflies.” Our bureaucratic system acts as a dank, dark cellar system that warehouses human “resources” made from our most vulnerable citizens, the “precariat” with no other door to walk through.
